Counting deaths during a pandemic is hard

Getting accurate numbers during a pandemic is very difficult. It is difficult, but not so difficult as to not be able to tell the difference between 3000 and 30,000, or 300,000 or even 21 million. Within a certain margin, error is to be expected. More accurate numbers become available when the dust has settled.

Here I have been called out because I believe the numbers coming out of China. Or rather, I believe the numbers are being given by China to the best of their ability. Keep in mind that I was disputing the numbers with people like Battle Beagle, who was claiming there were 50,000 COVID-19 infections a day increasing exponentially, and bodies piled high in Wuhan. Hunter Wallace knows that I have been perhaps the most accurate and careful commenter on COVID-19 out there.

The dust has settled in China, and the numbers in Wuhan have been revised. The numbers will be revised elsewhere in China and in other countries also. I don’t rely on Chinese government statements, I look at their ACTIONS. And their actions are consistent with a country that had a serious problem with COVID-19 and are now well on the way to eradicating it.
